In her address to the Oslo Military Society on 4 January 2010 Defence Minister Grete Faremo focused on a wide spectre of issues - from the High North and Afghanistan to the modernisation of the armed forces and NATO's new strategic concept.
Foto: (c) ForsvaretMs. Faremo underlined that in comparison to many countries where the defence budgets were being cut, Norway is in a situation where real growth in the defence budget is possible. The Government’s objective is to ensure that Norway has a modern defence organisation with a capability to act – both home and away - as upholders of Norwegian sovereignty and as contributors to international missions. To achieve this goal the comprehensive restructuring process of the armed forces will continue and a great deal of modern materiel will be phased in.
