On September 24 NATO gave the Serbian government a list of coordinates and numbers of cluster munitions dropped during the 1999 air campaign. Based on these data the Norwegian Government will fund a survey of the affected areas in Serbia.
08/10/2007 :: Serbia is faced with a challenge regarding explosive remnants from the NATO bombing campaign in 1999. According to local authorities unexploded cluster munitions are posing a threat to civilians on several locations in Serbia. Based on this Serbia requested target data from NATO regarding the 1999 air campaign in February 2007.
September 24 2007 NATO presented the Serbian government with a list of coordinates and numbers of cluster bombs dropped during the air campaign. Based on the data received from NATO, and existing information, a survey of possible remaining cluster munitions will be conducted in Serbia. The survey will be carried out by the Norwegian People`s Aid in collaboration with the Serbian Centre for Demining. The study is financed by the Norwegian government.
Co-operation in solving the problems caused by cluster munitions in affected countries is an integrated part of the international campaign to ban cluster munitions with unacceptable humanitarian consequences.
